Legend:

It is considered as place where Devki(mother of krishna) used to wash cloths of Krishna.

Past:

It used to be a kucha talab(pond) with underground water resources which dried up. In mid 1800's Royal family of Gwalior 'Scindia' donated generous amount and helped this kund become pukka which is the current style of it. It has unique style of stairs (and some rooms) that reach to the water level.

Modernization:

From the year 2015 this kund was marked as few selective kunds of Mathura to get makeover from the scheme of HRIDAY which works for protection and revitalization of important heritage cities. Around five corores were given for the project that provided, installation of synchronized lights and fountains, including possible boat ride in the kund.
This installation work has been completed and now the potra kund is open for tourists in new look and is surely attracting lots of attention.
